GAME PREP
This game is a perfect full-group activity, or you can take individual volunteers
depending on your group size. Provide green and red flags for each student placed in
or under each chair.
HOW TO PLAY THE GAME
Say: Valentine’s Day puts dating and relationships in the center spotlight. Let’s see how
good your red flag radar is in determining if these scenarios are a red flag or a green
flag! Raise the paper you think best represents if the statement is a red flag to avoid, or
a green flag to pursue!
1. They immediately jump into relationships.
2. They ask their parents and friends for wisdom on relationships.
3. They still talk to their ex every day.
4. They believe in God but don’t really read the Bible or pray.
5. They come to church every week.
6. They say, ‘I’m spiritual, not religious.’
7. They don’t follow Jesus, but you’re hoping you can change them.
8. They say, ‘I respect your faith, but it’s not really for me.’
9. “They love Jesus, read Scripture, and push you closer to God.”
10. “They encourage you to serve, worship, and grow spiritually—even when it’s
inconvenient.”
TEACH
Say: There’s no doubt that red flags are easy to spot from a distance, but we can
compromise when we get lost in our feelings.
We need a strong relationship with Jesus Christ if we want to have good discernment
for what might be a serious red flag in our relationships with others!
Additionally, a major red flag we need to avoid in relationships is anyone who does not
have a good relationship with Jesus Christ.
Read Colossians 3:16.
This is a perfect measure to determine if someone is walking in spiritual health or not.
A life that is centered around Jesus, His church, and a heart of thankfulness to God is a
green flag!
As we pursue relationships with others, the most important relationship in their lives
should reflect a deep connection to Jesus — a rich relationship with the Lord in His
word!
The most important relationship in your life is not your dating relationship — it’s your
spiritual relationship with God. When that relationship is prioritized first, your dating
relationships will flourish.
Pause and ask yourself if you are currently dating or interested in dating someone:
“Does this person sound like what this passage describes?” More importantly, ask,
“Does my life reflect this passage?”
Pursue the right person who pursues Jesus. Avoid the red flag of a lack of spiritual
health in the people you choose to date!
